Austin, Texas is a terrific place to be a writer. It has a strong writing community eager to mentor and encourage other writers. It is home to the Writers' League of Texas, hosts branches of the Society of Children's Book Writers & Illustrators and Sisters in Crime, and is rich in many types of writing interest groups.

Even more important, there are lots of little coffee shops where you can scribble away at your story or talk about writing with like-minded buddies while you eat chocolate and guzzle multiple cups of caffeinated beverages.

Here are links to some writing organizations that call Austin home.
